PRO - BONO PROJECT: PAM'S CHRISTIAN HOME Pam's Christian Home provides temporary shelter, social support and meals to adult homeless people. Pam's Christian Home is run by minister P Marais, who is 84 years old and uses his pension to run Pam's. He has opened his home to persons who have no other place to go. We became involved in this project when approached by Mr Marais for assistance because City of Tshwane had issued summons, due to the fact that the shelter did not fully comply to the zoning regulations, consolidations and municipal by-laws. The home also fell short of being able to house and provide adequate sanitation for the nearly 50 people that seek refuge there. With the help of Ms Bridges we have now started the zoning and consolidation process. We acquired the help of townplanner Mr Smit, who has also offered his services on a pro-bono basis. The vision for Pam's is to completely redo the existing structure to provide a room for every occupant, also providing a small bathroom and shower in each room. By doing so we hope to restore some of each persons human dignity. There will also be a central kitchen, that will be able to efficiently cater for providing meals for the 50 people. This structure will comply with all building regulations, zoning and municipal by-laws. The home receives no support and is dependent on donations to supplement its income to cover running costs and food. It is registered as a Non-Profit Organisation.
